Alabama Form Help
The following information has been provided to assist in the preparation of
Alabama returns.
Alabama has mandatory electronic filing for Corporations, S Corporations, Partnership, and Privilege tax returns. Payments should be made electronically if the return is filed electronically. Payments can be made with the return or on the Alabama website HTTP://MYALABAMATAXES@ALABAMA.GOV. All amounts exceeding 750 dollars must be paid electronically to avoid penalty. An indication must be made on the return that the payment is electronic or the return will be rejected.
Every corporation, joint stock company, or association subject to income tax under Title 40, Code of Alabama 1975, is required by 40-18-39 to file a return with the Alabama Department of Revenue for each taxable period stating gross income and allowable deductions and credits. Penalties will be added for failure to timely file, failure to timely pay, or fraudulent filing. The Commissioner of Revenue is authorized to distribute, apportion or allocate income and deductions of related taxpayers to clearly reflect the income of the entities. See 40 18 35 b 5.
Alabama income tax is calculated based on Alabama income calculated on Schedule P or Schedule D. S corporation exclusion is calculated on the attached worksheet. The Federal income tax deduction is pulled from the primary federal form. Nonrefundable credits are calculated by completing Schedule NRC. Tax payments pull from Schedule I.
Additions to Alabama taxable income are calculated from the income statement, Schedule AB, and from direct entry to the government form.
Deductions to Alabama taxable income are calculated from the income statement and direct entry to the government form.
Enter the date of the NOL, the amount, the amount previously used, and the amount used this year. Electronically filed returns will require a PDF attachment detailing the NOL.
Use only if filing status is two. Enter the account name, amount, and related expense for all nonbusiness income or loss removed from apportionable income.
If using the Multistate Allocation and Apportionment Information worksheet in the General section of the return, the Alabama property ratio will calculate based on the property entries listed for Alabama (Coded “AL”) and the total. Payroll factor is calculated from the Payroll section using Alabama (“AL”) amounts and total amounts. Sales factor is calculated using the Sales section when sales are apportioned to Alabama (“AL”) divided by total amounts.
Use only if filing status is 3. Apportionment percentage is calculated in the Sales section when sales are apportioned to “AL”. Alabama sales are divided by total sales to determine the apportionment percentage.
Schedule E calculates the federal income tax deduction for corporations. Lines 1 through 6 should only be filled if a federal consolidated return is filed. All companies should fill lines 6 through 11
Amounts are pulled from Schedule BC.
Enter the required information. Alabama requires this information for a properly completed tax return.
Enter the information for each type of credit. The credit is calculated based on the amount of Alabama tax due when credit is nonrefundable. Credit carryforward is calculated when applicable.
Related member interest and/or intangible expenses must be added back to the taxpayer’s apportionable income, unless the taxpayer shows or establishes that it satisfies an exception.
Corporations are required to pay a 10 dollar fee for the annual report. The privilege tax is calculated using values entered on the balance sheet. Form AL CAR is required for all corporations.

Form 8453 C is the electronic signature form summarizing the agreement between the taxpayer and the Electronic Return Originator or Paid Preparer. A signed copy of this form must be retained for 3 years after the end of the year for which the return is filed. The submission ID for the Alabama return is available on the Information and Status screen for your records. This form also allows the entry of the required information to schedule electronic payment of tax due. The withdrawal date is required to initiate the payment.
Form 8453 B is the electronic signature form summarizing the agreement between the taxpayer and the Electronic Return Originator or Paid Preparer. A signed copy of this form must be retained for 3 years after the end of the year for which the return is filed. The submission ID for the Alabama return is available on the Information and Status screen for your records. This form also allows the entry of the required information to schedule electronic payment of tax due. The withdrawal date is required to initiate the payment.
To be considered a complete return and not subject to treatment as a delinquent return due to improper preparation the following must be attached:
1) A complete copy of federal Form 1120S including all federal K1s, statements, and attachments. Voluminous schedules may be omitted: however a list of all omitted schedules must be attached and provided if requested.
2) Completed Alabama Schedule K1 for each person or tax entity that was a partner or owner at any time during the taxable year.
Amounts are pulled from the federal return. When amounts are not available from the federal return direct entries are required.

Federal amounts are pulled from the 1120S. The apportionment percentage is calculated from the apportionment schedule. Alabama amounts are the federal amounts multiplied by the apportionment percentage.
Schedule K1 is provided to show each partner’s share of Alabama net income and subtractions. Enter the profit and loss percentages on the K1 manager for each shareholder or owner. Resident shareholders will include 100% of all unapportioned income and loss. If the box to include partner in composite is checked, tax will be calculated.
Form PTE C is the composite filing for Alabama. Partners or owners are required to be included in the composite filing or fill out Form NRA. Calculation of tax is determined by the K1 Worksheet by putting an X in the box to include in the composite filing. CrossLink does not currently offer electronic filing for the PTE-C and it must be mailed to the Alabama Department of Revenue.
Form PTE CK1 includes all partners/owners included in the composite filing and the associated tax. To include a partner or owner check the box on the K1 of the entity that is to be included. Tax is calculated for that entity.
To complete a Schedule NRS check the box on the K1 for that shareholder.

The initial privilege tax is calculated using values entered on the balance sheet. It is due 2 and one half months after incorporation, organization, or qualification. The BPT IN is not available for electronic filing and should be mailed with payment to the Alabama Department of Revenue.
